MIND,
BODY, SPIRIT

The
Mind, Body, Spirit connection refers to the integration and alignment
of our mind, body, and spirit. In other words, mind, body, and spirit
work as one; they are not in conflict with one another; they work smoothly
as a unit. You know when they are not working together -- that uncomfortable
and confused feeling that your mind and body are telling you one thing,
but your heart or spirit is telling you something entirely different.
The mind is so powerful, that we often listen only to the thoughts and
beliefs in our heads. It is important to give equal voice to our body
and spirit.
When we are unable to express our deepest feelings through words, we still feel them very strongly in our bodies. You know that feeling of tightness in your chest; the shaking in your legs; the pounding in your temples; the tightness in your throat? That's your body trying to get your attention. Don't ignore these body sensations, because if you do, they will only get stronger. It is important to feel your body sensations and make a space for all feelings; yes, even the painful ones. One way to think about the sensations in your body is to see them as your spirit communicating with you. What do I mean by spirit? Spirit has many names: god/goddess; higher power; the divine; universal knowing; intuition; spiritual guides; the connection to all who came before us and to nature. Being in touch with spirit is a way to remember that you are unique and, at the same time, you are a part of a bigger life force. You are, after all, a spiritual being having a human experience. In my work connecting mind, body, and spirit, I work with individuals and groups using meditation, relaxation, visualization, and dreams. Having your mind, body, and spirit in harmony promotes well being, health, and serenity. |
